Chasing Dreams: My Exciting Journey to Study in the U.S.

Anan Bb

In 2023, I graduated from college and started looking for a job. I applied to many positions, and I even made it to the final stages of a few interviews. However, I didn't get the opportunity, which made me sad. I felt I lacked experience and money, and my dream of becoming a successful and independent businesswoman seemed out of reach. After a year, my dad suggested I apply to universities in the United States. I contacted a few universities, and I was lucky to receive an offer from Oklahoma State University. The only condition was that I had to study a one semester at the ELIC (ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND INTERCULTURAL CENTER). I told my dad about it, and after a week of thinking, he told me to apply, pay the fees, and start looking for housing.

I traveled with my family because they wanted to be part of the journey and support me. We flew from Jeddah to Los Angeles, then to Tulsa, and finally to Stillwater. It was a long trip, and I didn't have much time to adjust to the jet lag because my classes started just a few days after I arrived. The experience was amazing, and I learned a lot. I became more confident, made many friends, and became more independent than I had been before.

Now, as I write this in December, time has passed so quickly. I will miss everything and everyone I love. Saying thank you and showing my gratitude will never feel enough, but l am so thankful for all the support and opportunities l've had.
